FULL & PARTIAL DENTURES

FULL & PARTIAL DENTURES

Full prosthesis and partial dentures are both dental prosthetic devices used to replace missing teeth and restore oral function and aesthetics. Here's some information about each:

  1. Full Prosthesis (Complete Dentures):

    • Full prosthesis, commonly known as complete dentures, are used when a patient is missing all of their teeth in either the upper or lower arch, or both.
    • These prostheses consist of a gum-colored acrylic base that supports a set of artificial teeth made of porcelain or acrylic resin.
    • Full dentures are custom-made to fit the patient's mouth and are designed to closely resemble natural teeth and gums.
    • They rely on suction or dental adhesive to stay in place within the mouth.
    • Full dentures are removable, allowing for easy cleaning and maintenance.
  2. Partial Dentures:

    • Partial dentures are used when a patient is missing some, but not all, of their teeth in a dental arch.
    • Unlike full dentures, partial dentures are attached to the remaining natural teeth using metal clasps or precision attachments, providing stability and support.
    • Like full dentures, partial dentures consist of a gum-colored acrylic base with artificial teeth attached.
    • They are custom-made to fit the patient's mouth and are designed to blend in with the natural teeth for a seamless appearance.
    • Partial dentures can be removable or fixed (permanent), depending on the patient's preferences and dental needs.

Both full prosthesis and partial dentures offer several benefits, including improved chewing and speaking ability, enhanced facial appearance, and prevention of the remaining natural teeth from shifting out of position. However, they may require a period of adjustment for the patient to become accustomed to wearing them. Regular dental check-ups are essential to ensure proper fit and function of both types of dental prostheses.
